The Division offers a full range of adult and paediatric cardiac and thoracic surgery services, catering to congenital heart disease, myocardial revascularisation, cardiac valvular repair and replacement surgery and thoracic aortic surgery.

The CVRU represents an interface between clinical needs and advanced solutions by focussing on tissue engineering - a marriage of synthetic prototypes and biocomponents, while striving towards a zero tolerance for host pathobiological responses.
Strait Access Technologies
SAT brings together an engineering team to develop low cost advanced solutions for valve replacement surgery in the indigent populations of Africa.

Cardiac Society Intersociety Alliance welcomes Mozambique to UCT

The Cardiac Surgery Intersociety Alliance's 'Cardiac Surgery: Outreach Africa group' welcomes a team of doctors on a site visit from Hospital Central Maputo from Mozambique thereby formalising the memorandum of understanding between these two institutions.

Ad Hominem Promotion for Dr Paul Human

Dr Paul Human has been awarded an Ad hominem promotion to Associate Professor. Professor Human joined the department as a joint staff member in 1986 and was appointed Deupty Director of the Cardiovascular Research Unit, where he heads Pathobiology Research, in 1997 and Director of Research for the Division in 2002.
